Million Dollar Man
We recently settled a wrongful death claim for a husband and father who left behind a widow and two dependent children.
In addition to the family’s claim for bereavement damages in the amount of $180.000.00, we obtained compensation for the husband’s lost income, lost household services, and lost medical benefits.
An occupational therapist attended at the family home and documented the services that the husband provided to the family before his death. An economist then calculated the value of the lost income, the lost household services, and the lost medical benefits.
The widow’s portion of the lost income was assessed at over $500,000.00. Her portion of the lost household services and the lost medical benefits were assessed at over $300,000.00.
The children’s portion of the lost income was assessed at over $250,000.00. Their lost medical benefits were assessed at about $90,000.00.
This case shows that when a loved one is killed through the negligence of someone else, then the family can recover compensation for that loss.
